What is the easiest way to take off a sago pup without causing damage to the pup or parent sago?

If the pup is on the trunk, it’ll always leave a pot hole on the trunk if you pop it out. If it’s in the ground, I put a spade between the main tree and the pup and separate them. Dig out in front of the pup first to give room for the pup to move forward. Always try to get roots with the pup.
