I specialize in trimming and beautifying Sago palm trees. I offer services to all other types of palms as well and can help to simplify or to add to your landscape. Sometimes weekly maintenance landscapers tend to Sago Palm Trees, but very rarely to they manicure them to have them look their best. My specialty is to shape and shave the trunk. This removes the old, gray, and sickly looking frond remnants from years of improper trimming. I continue to this process on all other Palm trees. The end result, on whatever palm you have, is the for you have the best looking palms in the neighborhood.
I offer an on-site consultation free of charge. We will discuss the project scope, your expectations, and the steps I take in beautifying your space.
When you initially contact me, I can provide an estimate based on photos that you send me via text or email. When we meet in person, I can solidify the cost associated with the project.

Frequently Asked…

What is the easiest way to take off a sago pup without causing damage to the pup or parent sago?

If the pup is on the trunk, it’ll always leave a pot hole on the trunk if you pop it out. If it’s in the ground, I put a spade between the main tree and the pup and separate them. Dig out in front of the pup first to give room for the pup to move forward. Always try to get roots with the pup.

Is my Sago toxic to dogs?

All parts of sago palm are considered poisonous, with the seeds (nuts) being the most toxic part of the plant. Sago palm contains cycasin, which is the primary active toxic agent resulting in severe liver failure in dogs.

Are you supposed to leave the fronds low?

They certainly can be left lower. I’ve taken them up higher on many trees. It’s about getting the tree cleaned and reset if it hasn’t been manicured for an extended period of time. Sagos and Palms love being trimmed high and tight. Better sun and air exposure along with removal of years of debris from other trees and potential insects

About Me

Sago Max was started in my backyard as I sat and looked at my Sagos one summer evening. It had been years since I touched them as I relied on my weekly maintenance guys to handle my landscaping needs. I knew they weren’t taking care of how I liked them to be, so I went ahead and “Maxxed” them out. It felt great to use my hands again, to sweat and get dirty. The end product was just how I envisioned them looking and how I remembered handling them so many years before. I called up one of my dear friends and asked if I could tend to his beautiful (but un manicured) Sago in his front yard. He didn’t realize that it wasn’t taken care of and that it could look so much better. He gave me the go ahead and Sago Max as we know it was created. I had my first client and the rest is history. I had recently gone through some very challenging things in my life and was not happy with my corporate position. I remembered back to 2008-2009 when I teamed up with a dear friend and bought and sold Sago Palm Trees. This is when I taught myself how to make the trees look their best. From trimming and leaving just the right amount of fronds to shaping and shaving the trunk to give a manicured appearance, my masterpieces were sought after. An opportunity presented itself and I fell back into the normal grind of being an employee. In 2008 is when I learned the craft, in 2019 I had the courage and the desire to make it into a business. I’m a local product raised in Fresno and graduate of Fresno State with a degree in Political Science. I’ve replaced a desk and computer with pruners and chainsaws to follow my dream of going to work every day with a smile on my face. The old saying goes “If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life.”
